Welcome to RPCVs of Gulf Coast Florida!

We are a vibrant group of returned volunteers, friends, family, and future volunteers, dedicated to the mission of supporting educational and social development.  We work with local communities to promote development within our neighborhoods, and we partner globally to strengthen sustainable growth throughout the world. Peace Corps for Life

The President and CEO of the National Peace Corps Association, Glenn Blumhorst, voiced his thoughts and concerns succinctly. We are proud to share excerpts of his recent email here:

After months of escalating violence against Asian Americans, we must raise our voices and call for an end to the words and actions of hate.

This week brought a new dimension of horror: On Tuesday, a series of shootings at spas in Atlanta and nearby Cherokee County. Eight people were killed by a white male. Six of those murdered are women of Asian descent. Another person was injured.

We condemn this violence unequivocally.

If we are committed to a lifetime of Peace Corps ideals, we must stand against hate. As we noted early in this pandemic, our nation finds itself faced once more with a brutal truth articulated years ago by Sargent Shriver, who founded the Peace Corps: “We must also treat the disease of racism itself.”

We need to hold ourselves accountable to the ideals that have inspired us — and others.

And we’ve got tremendous work to do here at home when it comes building peace and friendship.

We support equality and justice.

We condemn the violence which has been perpetrated throughout the centuries.

We honor those whose lives have been taken senselessly-- those we may know, and those whom we know only by their tragic deaths.

We hear and respect the voices of the victims.

The recent rise in anti-Asian violence calls for our greater efforts to condemn these intolerable acts and this horrible rhetoric.

We ask all of you who read this to join with us and the rest of the Peace Corps community

Our signature project, the one we are currently endorsing and supporting, is Newtown Alive/Sarasota African-American Culture and Resource Center.  Newtown is a historically Black neighborhood in Sarasota, and Newtown Alive was created to illuminate and document its rich culture and history.  To learn more about Newtown Alive, please visit  http://www.newtownalive.org/.
